Everyone has been quite worried about the state of DC properties after Warner Bros Discovery CEO, David Zaslav, decided to randomly cancel Batgirl out of nowhere. While there has been some good news in the form of James Gunn taking over as the creative head of the DC Films division, there are still many projects that have not been given the green light. However, in our latest superhero movie news, Blue Beetle is moving forward, and has been given a new poster, which you can see below:
Not only has DC announced that Blue Beetle is moving forward, but it will hit theaters on August 18, 2023. Confirming this great superhero movie news is the previously mentioned head of DC Films, James Gunn, who has also shared the poster on his own social media pages. This is huge news considering Blue Beetle was one of the properties that had been left in limbo since the cancellation of Batgirl, among many other DC properties.
We are not entirely sure what Blue Beetle moving forward means for the whole of the DC Cinematic Universe, but this superhero movie news is one huge positive move in the right direction. James Gunn has been teasing other projects, along with characters, on his Twitter and Mastodon accounts, but we are not sure if those are going to be interconnected to Blue Beetle. As we understand it, Black Adam, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, Aquaman 2, and The Flash are going to be some of the central movies in this new DC universe, with the latter also receiving a confirming new poster design.
James Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran have not revealed all of their superhero movie news, especially the grander idea for DC, but we would assume this Blue Beetle announcement is going to be one of many upcoming moves that should renew some faith for all the DC Films hopefuls. David Zalslav has reportedly sat down with both Gunn and Safran and had a “town hall” type of meeting, where they all shared their grand plan for the DC Cinematic Universe. What we do know is that Zaslav wants a new “10-year” plan in place, where DC is meant to mirror the same formula, and hopefully the same success, as the MCU.
James Gunn is also ending his run as the creative mind behind the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, and he certainly knows how to plan a story that is cohesive and fun for the audience, so we would expect that he is going to do the same for DC in that regard. We certainly hope the next big piece of superhero movie news is that Henry Cavill gets a new deal for his Superman roles.
With Blue Beetle getting a new poster and release date, this does bode well for more of the upcoming DC superhero movie news. While everyone has been questioning DC since the big Batgirl cancellation, things might start to smooth out in the coming months. Moving a highly anticipated title like Blue Beetle forward is certainly going to be a hit amongst the comic fanbase, and we hope there is even better news to come.
