On Sunday, March 12, this list will be updated Oscart 2023 LIVE beginning at 5 p.m. PT/8 a.m. ET!
The 95th Academy Awards will finally be celebrated by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The 95th Academy Awards saw the largest voter turnout in Oscar history, according to Academy CEO Bill Kramer, making this most recent round of victors another one for the record books. The 2023 Oscar nominations are being led by A24 and Netflix, with Everything Everywhere All at Once taking the top spot with 11 nominations and All Quiet on the Western Front coming in second with 9 nominations, tied with The Banshees of Inisherin.
Everything Everywhere All at Once won Best Picture, Best Director for the Daniels, Best Actress for Michelle Yeoh, Best Supporting Actor for Ke Huy Quan, and Best Supporting Actress for Stephanie Hsu and Jamie Lee Curtis, as expected. All Quiet on the Western Front has a significant presence tonight at the Oscars, especially in the Best Film, Best International Feature, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Cinematography categories. With 8 and 7 nominations each, Elvis and The Fabelmans take third and fourth place, respectively.
The 2023 Oscars have several noteworthy accomplishments to highlight before the winners are revealed. For instance, first-time nominees occupy 16 of the 20 acting positions. Since 1935, there haven’t been all-first-time nominations for any category save Best Actor (back when only 3 contenders were recognized). Finally, there has never been this much Asian representation in the Oscar acting categories as Michelle Yeoh became the first Asian to be nominated for Best Actress, joining Ke Huy Quan, Stephanie Hsu and Hong Chau. Ultimately, thanks to his Original Score nomination for The Fabelmans, renowned composer John Williams surpassed his record of having received the most Oscar nominations while still alive with 53 nominations.
Following the iconic Oscar slap incident involving Will Smith and Chris Rock last year, a new “crisis squad” will be on hand at the 95th Academy Awards in case any issues develop. Will that team be required and will this year’s performance be hotter than the previous year’s? On Sunday, March 12, we’ll update you live on all the Oscars 2023 winners, so stay tuned to find out more! Check out the 2022 Golden Globe, Critics’ Choice, BAFTA, SAG, and our very own DiscussingFilm Critics Award winners as well.
