According to a new rumor, there has been no internal debate at Marvel regarding recasting Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror for the MCU’s Avengers 5: The Kang Dynasty.
Marvel, or Disney in general, has remained entirely silent on the situation surrounding Majors and his recent arrest for an alleged assault in New York City.
Recent speculations, however, imply that while no decision has been made regarding the Avengers 5 actor’s future with the superhero franchise, negotiations have taken place.
Despite this, a recent story offers light on another potential for how Marvel may — or may not — handle the situation.
Will Jonathan Majors be recast in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
According to Deadline, Marvel has not addressed recasting Jonathan Majors (Kang) in future MCU films, including Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, as a result of his arrest in New York City for reportedly beating his fiancée.
Majors’ talent management, Entertainment 360, has apparently dropped him, as has The Lede Company PR Firm.
Both drops appear to be in response to the actor’s arrest and charges, as he had previously enjoyed success in Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania and Creed III.
Concerning the recast, these claims contradict rumors that talks have begun, with Marvel potentially considering “a Damson Idris-type… if [a recast] occurs.”
What Might Kang’s Future Hold?
Both drops appear to be in response to the actor’s arrest and allegations, as he had previously seen significant success in both Ant-Man and The Wasp. While this recent report claims that no negotiations about the future of Majors in the MCU have taken place, it is always conceivable that such discussions have taken place behind closed doors.
Given the actor’s massive outrage following his arrest, fans should not be surprised to see a recast in the Conqueror’s future, especially given how important Kang is scheduled to play in the MCU moving forward. His name appears in the title of the fifth Avengers film.
It is worth noting, however, that neither Disney nor Marvel has commented on the alleged assault or the widely publicized arrest, which resulted in Majors’ US Army advertisement being dropped.
With his talent management and PR team dumping him and Avengers 5 on the horizon, it appears all the more likely that these discussions will become unavoidable, and that if they haven’t already begun quietly, they will soon.
